Fuck the Donald Sterling situation. The NBA as a whole has been against Africa-Americans since the beginning. I know its the past and of course the color lines where broken with the desegregation of everything, but lets put things in perspective for our generation. Michael Jordan is the greatest of all time, but he wasn’t relatable to the african-american community other than being an “icon”. Many of us where fans of Allen Iverson simply because he related. In my opinion (and my opinion only), all of the modern changes was based on his presence. When A.I. showed up looking like “us”, they tried to ban the cornrows, tucked jersey rules were implemented, not to mentioned the dress code policy based on his “niggerly” appearance. And how about that long arm sleeve everyone where’s now? He wore that by force because of the banning of his tattoos. Now it’s considered “gear”. David Stern was doing business as apart of the ‘owners club’ with Sterling, Sterling since 81, Stern since 84. Stern is more the reason why the NBA is in this condition, but anyways, that torch was passed to Silver, along with the burdens of the cover up. Silver needed to make a name for himself, this is the perfect opportunity. So Sterling is banned for life but what’s the bigger picture? Sterling was a nuisance to NBA from the beginning, but money speaks, he still owns the team, wether he attends the games or not, the idea he can’t handle the business just puts it in the hands of a trustee while he still reaps the profit. He bought it for what?, 12.5 M in ‘81, worth 575 M’s todays, and only fined 2.5 M, he’s still half-a-billion richer with todays dollar inflation included in that. Not to mentioned the band wagon that’s gonna include merch, tickets, and even more support for the team, which he stills owns. Fact of the matter is this. The NBA list of players is composed of 76 percent african americans, 43 percent of coaches are black, and the only majority owner is “Good Ole Mike Jordan”, Ironically, the african-american who made the NBA the most money as a player, put the NBA on a bigger stage, and is widely known for not giving two fucks about african americans in real life, not TV Mike, but real-life Michael Jprdan. So what are we really battling here? Just my random thoughts.
